Juz 19: Surah Furqan, Surah Shuara and Surah Naml

Before you dive into the actual activities for each surah, spend some time reciting the surah together. In this case, recite the final part of Surah Furqan, starting at ayah 21, Surah Shuara, and the first 59 ayahs of Surah Naml. If this is not possible, listen to the surah on a digital device. Since we will be recreating our masjid experience, we be listening to Mishari Rashid on our Quran explorer App.

Surah Furqan

In this surah we have two different activities. Our main theme in this Juz will be the diversity of our Ummah, and the story of Sulaiman (A). Our Prophet Muhammad (S) was not a messenger for one specific region or for those who spoke a particular language. In fact, the Prophet was sent down as a Messenger for ALL of mankind.

Muslims Around the World

This activity is based on ayah 51 of Surah Furqan on the diversity of our ummah. Download the activity worksheet HERE. Page 1 of this activity is a simple coloring activity for younger children. The second page is for older children in which they will create their own version of a “Muslims Around the World” representation using various pictures. They are encouraged to use their creativity in displaying their presentation. Learning about diversity helps us to connect with others and encourage tolerance. Hence, this activity will inshallah allow our children to learn the many different ethnicity and cultures of our ummah. While we all may look a little different, we are all connected through ONE religion. Subhanallah.

Following Directions Activity

This activity is mainly for older children, although younger children who are able to read and write may enjoy completing the activity as well. In ayah 32, Allah answers WHY the Quran was revealed over a span of 23 years rather than all at once. Older children will understand and be able to reflect on this ayah.

This two part activity is designed to allow the children to experience what it is like to be overwhelmed with information. At the end of the activity, there is a 3-question write up in which the children are asked to reflect on the completed activities and compare their experience. Please be sure to read the directions before allowing the children to begin the activity. This activity will require parental assistance.

Surah Shuara

Quranic Words and Crossword Puzzle

Just as the Prophet (S) was sent as a Messenger to ALL mankind, the Quran was sent for ALL of mankind. In Ayahs 192-195, Allah says

This (Quran) is the reveleation of the Lord of the worlds. The trusted Spirit (Jibril (A)) has brought it down. Upon your heart, so that you become one of the warners. In plain Arabic language.

If you have not had an opportunity to complete some of the Quran related activities from Juz 14, this would be another great time to explore them.

Surah Naml

The story of Sulaiman (A) is one that is often of great interest to children. So, for this reason, we are going to focus on Ayah 18-19 of Surah Naml in which the Ant warms its colony of the approaching army of Sulaiman (A). There is more wisdom in these ayah than just a simple story of a Prophet who is able to communicate with animals and jinns. However, for younger children, just the mention of these ayahs is a great introduction to the story of Sulaiman (A).

The Ant Maze

Download the Ant Maze worksheet HERE. This worksheet activity has an Ant themed maze (based on ayah 18) that can be completed by both the younger and older children. For older children, there is also a second page to this activity based on ayah 19. It is a fill in the blank in which the children will have to look up the ayah to complete the missing words. Use this opportunity to discuss the dua that Sulaiman (A) makes upon hearing the Ant. Talk about the important of being grateful for the gifts Allah (SWT) has given us and always remain humble.

Modification (from Surah Naml) for younger children

Children that are too young to complete a maze activity can simply use the the first page of the worksheet as a coloring activity.
