School Lunch Ideas

The answer to the famous question… “What do you give your child for lunch?”

Here are some ideas for kids lunches. Using cookie cutters, colors, and food picks, I try to make lunches appealing to my kids. The majority of the items in this menu are healthy options that the kids (or at least one kid) likes, and are easy for me as a parent to put together in the mornings. The kids have pizza day at school on Fridays so we only need four meal ideas each week.

In this weekly post about our school lunches, I will share the recipes, and how I packed the kids’ lunches as well as what they enjoyed. This week’s lunch consisted of mainly leftovers.

Here’s what we had this week

MONDAY

Baked Ziti* with a side of pita chips, grapes and milk.

*We used left-over baked ziti made by a friend.

✅✅✅ No complaints today.

TUESDAY

Tuna Melt** with a side of celery and cream cheese (for dipping), mandarin oranges and milk.

**Mix store bought canned tuna with some mayonnaise and slather it onto a hot dog bun (leftovers from last weeks lunch). Top with your choice of cheese (we used a mixture of mild cheddar and montery jack) and toast it in the broiler of an oven for a few minutes until all the cheese has melted and the bun is slightly toasted.

✅✅✅ No complaints today (although, tuna really isn’t a favorite in our home).

WEDNESDAY

Qeema (Ground Beef) Paratha (Indian Flatbread)*** with a side of yogurt, cucumbers, and blueberry canteloup fruit kabobs and milk (just incase the ground beef was spicy).

✅✅✅ Apparently, this is the kids MOST FAVORITE lunch- which makes this mommy very happy.

THURSDAY

Chicken Nuggets**** with a side of babybel cheese, carrot sticks and grapes, plus ranch dressing and ketchup (for dipping), and milk.

****This was our unhealthy cheat meal for this week.

✅✅✅ No complaints today.
