Seerah Books for kids About the Prophet Muhammad

Itโ€™s Rabiโ€™ al awal. How do you teach your kids about the importance of this Islamic month. Leave me a comment ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ to let me know. We use Seerah Books for kids to encourage learning about the Prophet Muhammad (ุตู„ู‰ ุงู„ู„ู‡ ุนู„ูŠู‡ ูˆุนู„ู‰ ุขู„ู‡ ูˆุณู„ู…)

I donโ€™t believe religion (whether Islam or any) can be taught in a few hours a week confined to a classroom (I apologize if this offends anyone- this is strictly my opinion). Instead, I think kids that are taught religion using the day to day examples gain a much better understanding of their faith. Learning solutions from the problems that arise or resolving situations come up help to strength the confidence one has in practicing their religion.ย

As a reader family, we love putting together a reading basket curated with all the books on a specific subject. So, in honor of the birth month of the Prophet Muhammad (ุตู„ู‰ ุงู„ู„ู‡ ุนู„ูŠู‡ ูˆุนู„ู‰ ุขู„ู‡ ูˆุณู„ู…), we present to you OUR SEERAH BASKET.

Seerah Books Basket for KidsI find that its best to NEVER force children to read, instead its best to just provide an opportunity that is encouraging. My kids are readers and will read whatever is easily accessible. So, we keep our basket in the main living area and throughout the month, the children go through a couple (if not ALL) the books in the basket. Placing the basket in the center of the main gathering areas gives the kids plenty of opportunity to take a book whenever they have some down time.

Listed below, you will find some of our favorite Seerah Books for kids.

Seerah Books for Kids: My Prophet Muhammad by Learning Roots

This book, by Learning Roots, is an 11-page board packed with some great gems from the Seerah. It is NOT a comprehensive biography of the prophet. It is designed as an easy ready for younger children. My 2 year old enjoyed reading the book with me. Despite the large size of the book, the actual text is written in an easy to read but small font. The beautiful and vivid illustrations throughout the book are of landscapes similar to the image on the cover. All in all it’s a great introduction to the Seerah for younger kids or those that are just beginning to learn about the Prophet.

Good Night Storiesย  from the Life of the Prophet Muhammad

By: Saniyasnain Khan

This hard cover picture book with 23 short stories that take no more than a couple minutes each to read. As the book intends, these stories are perfect to be read as part of a nightly bedtime routine for small children. This book has over 100 pages of simple yet colorful illustrations. Its an easy read with simple sentences. Therefore, it will appeal to both younger children as well as older children.

Activity Suggestion: Pick a month, either Rabi-al Awal or any other month of your choice. Set aside 10 minutes daily. I suggest right before or after dinner, or during the kids bedtime routine. Read one story every day and allow the children to discuss it or ask questions pertaining to that particular story. The children will surprise you with the amount of knowledge they will gain in just one month.ย

Tell Me About the Prophet Muhammadย

By:ย Saniyasnain Khan

This Seerah book is best for children in upper elementary, ages 8-11. The information provided in this book is not in depth, but there is still good enough for children to gain a better understanding than the previous two recommendations. There are several Hadith and stories mentioned as side notes throughout the book in addition to the main text, which I think is great for building additional Islamic knowledge. It’s actually a short read. The best part though, is the insides of the front cover and the back. Inside the front cover, there a brief timeline of some of the major events in Islamic history. Inside the back cover is a very helpful glossary of Islamic terms and a Family Tree.

This short 1-minute reads are about a page long but full of wisdom. The stories are in chronological order and a great discussion starter. The well illustrated book has pictures on every page. The simple sentences makes it easy to read for even the youngest readers.ย

Activity Suggestion:ย Use the stories as a discussion starter, and designate time daily to read one story. After the reading, take a few minutes to discuss the events mentioned and find the lesson in it. For older kids, talk about how they can apply the lessons learned in their daily life.

The Prophet Muhammad Storybook 2 & The Prophet Muhammad Storybook 3

By: Saniyasnain Khan

Seerah Books for Kids: Prophet Muhammad StorybookThese Seerah books for kids is part of a 3-book series. I have yet to include the first part in our collection as it mainly focuses on the pre-birth era. I felt that while the information for Makkah history is important in gaining a more thorough understanding, books 2 & 3 add more value in building the connection with the Seerah. Since the author is the same as the previous 3 suggestions, you will notice a similarity in the format of the book as well as the parts of the Seerah that is covered. However, I feel that having all book sets is important. The knowlege your child will gain from this collection builds on the knowledge they’ve aquired from the previous books.

Seerah Books for Kids : The Life of the Prophet Muhammad

This 131- page book is an informative read. The book has a few scattered illustrations that are not meant to be the focus. The sentences, which are actually formatted for lower elementary aged kids, is more appealing to the upper elementary kids. This is because of the overall text heavy format of the book. If youโ€™ve already used the first few suggested book, this Seerah book will allow kids to build on their previous knowledge and gain a better understanding of the life of the Prophet Muhammad (ุตู„ู‰ ุงู„ู„ู‡ ุนู„ูŠู‡ ูˆุนู„ู‰ ุขู„ู‡ ูˆุณู„ู…).ย

Walking Like the Prophet (ุตู„ู‰ ุงู„ู„ู‡ ุนู„ูŠู‡ ูˆุนู„ู‰ ุขู„ู‡ ูˆุณู„ู…)

img_3552ย This short 40-page book is part of a 3-book series. Each book has 1-2 small and simple rhyming sentences on every page. The rhymes make it fun for children to learn the sunnah and adab of walking (eating & sleeping in the other 2 books). The book itself doesn’t take long to read, but it would be best to read just a couple pages a week and focus, as a family, on putting the sunnahs in practice.
