School Lunch Ideas

The answer to the famous question… “What do you give your child for lunch?”

Here are some ideas for kids lunches. Using cookie cutters, colors, and food picks, I try to make lunches appealing to my kids. The majority of the items in this menu are healthy options that the kids (or at least one kid) likes, and are easy for me as a parent to put together in the mornings. The kids have pizza day at school on Fridays so we only need four meal ideas each week.

In this weekly post about our school lunches, I will share the recipes, and how I packed the kids’ lunches as well as what they enjoyed. This week’s lunch consisted of mainly leftovers.

Here’s what we had this week

MONDAY

Qeema (Ground Beef) and Cheese Paratha Roll* with a side of yogurt and a mandarin orange.

*We used left-over freezer stock ground beef and pre-shredded cheese that I store in the freezer. Cook Malaysian paratha on a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and sprinkle on some cheddar cheese, and roll it up.

✅✅✅ No complaints today.

TUESDAY

Chicken Croissant** with a side of cherry tomato, cheddar rockets, and a strawberry grape fruit salad.

**In a food processor, process cooked boneless chicken breast cubes (I cook a 2-4 pounds at one time and freeze them in individual portions for later use). Mix in mayonnaise, salt and pepper. Then, spread the mixture in between a sliced croissant.

✅✅✅ No complaints today (AND, the kids enjoyed the croissant version much more than a regular sandwich).

WEDNESDAY

Mongolian Beef and Rice*** with a side of cucumbers, grapes and milk.

***the recipe for the Mongolian beef can be found on Tea for Turmeric’s website, click here to go directly to the post.

✅✅✅ No complaints.

THURSDAY

Corn Dog**** with a side of spring mix salad, carrot sticks, cantaloupe (cut using a mini fall leaf cutter) and ketchup (for dipping), and milk.

****This was our unhealthy cheat meal for this week. The corn dog recipe I used can be found here.

✅✅✅ No complaints today.
