October Book Recommendations for 6 year olds

I asked my six year to recommend 5 of her favorite books… I have to be honest, other than the first book, these are not the books she is currently reading, in fact she hasn’t read them in over a year. However, these are the books she recommended:

In no particular order:

1.  Meet Yasmin!

by: Saadia Faruqi and Hatem Aly

This is a book is a compilation of all four currently released books in this series. The books, which can be purchased on amazon, are simple chapter books with attractive pictures and easy to read sentences. This book is ideal for readers looking to start chapter books.

2.  Croc gets a shock

by: Mairi MacKinnon

This is a very simple picture book, ideal for beginner readers. Its part of the Usborne Phonics Readers series featuring rhyming text and phonics repitition.

3.  Going to the Dentist

by: Anne Civardi

This is another book in the Usborne series. This one, however, is part of the Usborne First Experiences series. This series features books related to first experiences of children such as going to school, going on an airplane, going to the hospital, etc. This book highlights some of the experiences one may encounter when you visit such places. This is a nice book to read to younger kids who are just beginning their dental visits. It is also a nice book for beginner readers. The illustrations and simple sentences are designed with beginner readers in mind making it a fun and easy to read picture book.

4.  Bee makes tea

by: Lesley Sims

This is another book that is part of the Usborne Phonics Readers. Like other books in this series, its rhyming text and focus on phonics repitition, makes it a fun and easy read for beginner readers.

5.  Hen’s pens

by: Jenny Tyler and Stephen Cartwright

This book, also part of an Usborne books series, is written especially for beginner readers. It has simple and easy words and attractive illustrations which are sure to please young readers.

This month Little A has mainly been enjoying her collection of Noor kids books and Yasmin. However, she wanted to share these book as her top favorite 5 for this month. Since we like to encourage free will, I have honored her wishes and presented these books in her October favorite with the hopes that November’s favorite 5 will be a better reflection of what she is currently enjoying. With that note, however, I would like to mention that the Usborne series books have been a vital part of our early readings at home. We currently have over 30 books in our home library collection.  All of the books mentioned in this post are available through amazon.
