Before you dive into the actual activities for each surah, spend some time reciting the surah together. In this case, recite the final part of Surah Nisa, starting at ayah 148 and the first 82 ayahs of Surah Maeda. If this is not possible, listen to the surah on a digital device. Since we will be recreating our masjid experience, we be listening to Mishari Rashid on our Quran explorer App.

Surah Maeda
In Surah Maeda, the main topic we will focus on Halal and Haraam foods. There are many animal Allah (SWT) has made lawful on us, but there are also many that are unlawful. Its important to know which animals we can eat so that we continue to do acts that are pleasing to Allah (SWT). We have several activities on this topic so inshallah there will be at least one that will be age appropriate for your child. Download the entire worksheet packet HERE.
Coloring Activity
The first activity is a coloring activity. It can be used as a simple coloring sheet for younger kids or as a proper worksheet in which the children are asked to distinguish lawful and prohibited animals. Please follow the directions on page 1 of the worksheet. The answers for this worksheet is on page 4.
Animals that are Halal Wordsearch
There are 2 worksheets with the exact same wordsearch. For a less challenging wordsearch, use page 3. Here, the children will complete the wordsearch in the traditional manor by finding the names of the animals from a given word box. For a more challenging experience, use page 2. There are many different animal names hidden in the wordsearch. Some of these animals are lawful and others are prohibited. In this worksheet, the children are asked to search for animal names without given a specific name to search. They must find animal names and figure out if the animal is Halal or Haraam. If the animal is Halal, they will circle the name of the animal. Answers for this part of the worksheet is on page 4.
Who am I Crossword Puzzle
This crossword puzzle is variation of the traditional crossword puzzle. In this puzzle, the children will identify the name of the animal based on a given clue. The bold squares throughout the puzzle are then put in another question to figure out what the named animals have in common. The answers to this puzzle is on page 5.
The State of Purification
The last and final activity for this Juz is tayammum. In ayah 6 of Surah Maeda, Allah (SWT) tells us about tayammum (the act of purifying oneself in the absence of water). My children have not been taught how to do tayammum. So, we will be spending a few minutes showing them the gestures for tayammum. We will then have each child repeat the gestures a couple times to make sure they understand it. If your family has not discussed this topic, this is a great opportunity to do so. Tayammum is too simple to even need a proper activity for. However, I have created an activity in which the children are given scenarios and asked to determine whether the person needs to make wudhu, ghusl or tayammum.
