Before you dive into the actual activities for each surah, spend some time reciting the surah together. In this case, recite ayahs 24-147 of Surah Nisa. If this is not possible, listen to the surah on a digital device. Since we will be recreating our masjid experience, we be listening to Mishari Rashid on our Quran explorer App.
For the full guide to how best use these Juz specific activities, please check out the main page of the Quran Activities for kids.
Surah Nisa
Many of the themes in Surah Nisa are topics we have not yet discussed with our children, and while some may feel it okay for to expose children to all the topics of the Quran. We have decided to slowly introduce concepts as they become age appropriate. However, there are still a few themes that we can cover in today’s Juz. Wherever there is mention of intercourse, adultery, or other adult themes, we simply omit that and discuss the others points in the ayah. Inshallah as the children get older, we will revisit these ayahs. If you have older children, please feel free to add discuss the full extent of the ayah.
Major and Minor Sins in Islam
In ayahs 31 and 40, Allah tells us:
Ayah 31- If you abstain from the major (sins) out of what you have been forbidden from, We shall write off your minor sins, and shall admit you to a noble entrance.
Ayah 40- Surely, Allah does not wrong (anyone), even to the measure of a particle. If it is a good deed, He multiplies it, and gives a great reward out of His Own pleasure.
So, for these ayahs we will discuss Major and Minor sins as well as good deeds. Please download the worksheet HERE. Page 1 of this worksheet is meant for children age 10 and above. For children younger than 10, use Pages 2-4 which talk about good deed and bad deeds. Page 5 of this printable contains the answers for page 1. If the activity is completed correctly, the red colored bubbled will reveal a hidden message which can be used to answer the question at the bottom of the page.
Activity extension for older children
Those children who have already been exposed to themes such as sexual intercourse can research the 7 major sins.
Wudu Cards
Ayah 43 of Surah Nisa discusses wudu, ghusl and tayyamum. For this topic, we have created wudu cards that the children can print out, color and put in sequential order. Please click HERE to download the cards. These cards can also be printed on cardstock, laminated, and posted on the wall near the bathroom to be used as a reminder of the steps for wudu.
Ghusl Matching Activity from Surah Nisa
Ghusl is another one of those topics which can and should be taught to all children. As the children get older, you can explain to them other times when it is appropriate to do ghusl in order to purify oneself such as after menstruation and sexual intercourse. This simple matching activity can be used to discuss and teach ghusl. Please download the worksheet HERE.
Prayer Mat Coloring Activity
The topics in this Surah are mature, so most of the discussion will be for older children. However, we can not forget the littlest members of our family. So, for them, I have a simple coloring activitiy which you can download HERE.
