Juz 8: Surah Al-Anaam & Surah Al-Araf

Juz 8 Quran Activities for Kids

Before you dive into the actual activities for each surah, spend some time reciting the surah together. In this case, recite the final part of Surah Al-Anaam, starting at ayah 111 and the first 87 ayahs of Surah Al-Araf. If this is not possible, listen to the surah on a digital device. Since we will be recreating our masjid experience, we be listening to Mishari Rashid on our Quran explorer App.

The surahs we read often discuss Allah’s punishment as well as the blessings. For children, I like to focus on just the blessings until they have formed a good understanding and love for Allah. As they get older, we can start to introduce the concept of Jahannam and the punishments.

Surah Al-Anaam

Ayah 160 of Surah Al-Anaam says that good deeds are multiplied by 10 while bad deeds are only counted once. So, for this activity you will need two mason jars, one for good deed and one for bad deed. There are a couple ways to complete this activity. First, set a time limit for the duration of the activity. You can choose to track the kids good and bad deeds for a day, a couple days or a week. I do not recommend going any longer than that as you will lose its essence. Use a coin bank lid to convert the mason jar into a coin bank.

Variation 1

Have the child right down on 10 strips of paper every time they complete a good deed and put all 10 strips of paper into the good teacher. Alternatively, they can write on only 1 strip, but add in 9 blank strips for every good deed. If they happen to make a mistake or do a bad deed, have them write it on one strip of paper and put it in the bad deed jar. At the end of the time limit examine the contents of both jars. This should visually allow the child to see the value of good deeds.

Variation 2

Have a child put in a small amount of money, such as 1 cent, in each of the jars. Put in 10 of the coins every time the child completes a good deed, and one when here she does something bad. At the end of the time limit, we both jars and compare the weight.

Variation 3

Have the child complete either variation 1 or variation 2 but if they ask for forgiveness for their bad deed (without you having to remind them), let them remove the coin or paper from the bad deed jar.

Surah Al-Araf

Memorization

Yesterday’s Juz did not have any memorization suggestions but this time I am recommend memorizing Ayah 23. This is the Dua Prophet Adam (A) recited to ask Allah (SWT) for forgiveness. It’s not only a beautiful Dua for us to recite after Salaah, but it will also teach the children how to ask for forgives when they do a bad deed.

These are just some suggestions for this Juz. We will cover more activities for Surah Araf in the next Juz inshallah.
