October Book Recommendations for 8 year olds

Big Z loves to read. He can read and re-read a book hundreds of times and still enjoy it the same way he did the first time he read it. I always find myself struggling to look for new books, or book series that my kids would enjoy, and hopefully learn from. To make it easier on other parents struggling to find good books to enrich their children with, Big Z has put together his October favorite 5 list for boys (AND GIRLS) 8 years of age.

1.  Ms. Marvel

by: Willow Wilson and others

A comic book about a pakistani 16 year old that discovers she has superpowers. She claims to be “super twinsies” with Wolverine. This comic book shares the adventures of Ms. Marvel and how she works to save the city from harm.

2.  The Muslims

by: Zanib Mian

This is a chapter book about a boy named Omer. As a new kid in school, he gets bullied by a kid named Daniel. But, as fate would have it, situations arise which eventually bring Daniel and Omer together, and they must help each other. Omer uses teachings from his faith to help him overcome the challenges he is faced with. In the end, Omer and Daniel become friends. There are some good lessons in this book, and definately worth the read.

3. Zaydo Potato, A Muslim

by: Randa Taftaf

This a short picture book about a boy named Zaydo, his sister Raya, and his sidekick named black pepper. This book is appealing to kids because it shares the story of a “muslim superhero” and how he helps children.

4. Geronimo Stilton

by: Elisabetta Dami

This is a chapter book series about a mouse who is a best-selling author. He is clumsy and travels the world which lead him in to many adventures. Big Z enjoys this series because “it’s funny”.

5. Magic Tree House

by: Mary Pope Osborne

This non-fiction children’s chapter book series is about two main characters, Jack and Annie who travel to numerous adventures in their magic treehouse. Their travels introduces them to historical people and takes them to famous landmarks. This book series has the perfect blend of non fiction and historical facts. It has been one of the MOST VALUABLE asset in our home library. Children as young as 6 can start enjoying these books. But the best part about these books is that it doesn’t just appeal to kids, but also to adults. Big Z’s grandmother loves reading these book just as much as he and his siblings do. One of the signs of a great book is that it appeals to both children and adults.
